Help & FAQ

Buying, domains & going live

Short, straight answers — especially about the no-call purchase and connecting your own domain. Still stuck? Ask the assistant on the home page or email hello@emarkss.com.

Buying — no calls, no pressure

Do I really have to get on a call to buy?

No — and that's deliberate. The entire service is self-serve. You pick a plan, pay securely by card, fill in a short details form, and we take it live. There's no sales pitch, no quote to negotiate, and no call required to buy or to cancel.

If you'd prefer to talk to a person you can email hello@emarkss.com — but it's never a step you're forced through.

How do I actually pay? Is it secure?

Checkout is handled by Stripe, a global payment provider. We never see or store your full card number. You'll enter your card, billing details and business name, tick the box to accept the Terms of Service, and that's the order placed.

What's the difference between the two plans?

Monthly-only has nothing upfront — you just start paying the monthly fee. Hybrid has a one-off setup fee plus a lower monthly fee, so it costs less over time. Both include the same hosting, security and edits. See the live figures on the pricing section.

Is there a contract or minimum term?

Yes — a 12-month minimum term, then it rolls month to month. You accept the full terms at checkout (that box you tick). After the minimum term you can cancel anytime; see cancelling below.

What happens if I close the tab right after paying?

Nothing is lost. Your payment is recorded immediately, and we email you the same short details form so you can finish whenever suits you. The emailed link is the source of truth — a closed browser tab can't strand your order.

Will prices have tax added?

Prices are shown excluding any applicable tax (for example UK VAT). If tax applies to your order, it's shown clearly at checkout before you pay.

Your domain & going live

Do I have to move or transfer my domain to you?

No. You keep your domain exactly where it is, registered to you. We don't take ownership and you don't change your registrar or nameservers. We simply point it at your new site with two small DNS records.

How does connecting my own domain work, step by step?

After you order and confirm your domain on the details form, we email you exactly two DNS records to add at your domain provider:

  1. one record that points your web address (traffic) to your new site, and
  2. one verification record that lets us issue your secure HTTPS certificate.

You paste those two records in, save, and that's it. The certificate is issued and renewed automatically — forever — so you never deal with SSL again. If you tell us who your domain provider is, we'll include provider-specific instructions.

I don't know how to edit DNS / I'm not technical. Help?

That's fine — most owners aren't. The two records come with plain instructions and screenshots for common providers (GoDaddy, Namecheap, 123-Reg, Squarespace Domains, and others). If you'd rather not touch it at all, reply to the email and we'll guide you through it, or you can stay on a free eMarkss subdomain (see below) and connect your domain later.

Can I go live without using my own domain yet?

Yes. You can launch on a free address like your-business.emarkss-site.com in seconds — no DNS needed — and switch to your own domain whenever you're ready, at no extra cost.

How long until my domain shows the new site?

Once you save the two DNS records it's usually live within minutes. Occasionally DNS changes can take a few hours to update worldwide. The HTTPS padlock appears automatically once the verification record is detected.

Will my email (e.g. you@yourbusiness.com) be affected?

No. The records we send only affect your website traffic and certificate. Your email and any other existing records stay exactly as they are. If you're unsure, send us a list of your current records first and we'll confirm before you change anything.

What about my old website and current host?

Your old site stays untouched until you point the domain to us, so there's no downtime. Once you're happy and live, you can cancel your old hosting if you no longer need it — your new plan already includes hosting.

What's included & edits

What does the monthly fee actually cover?

Hosting on a fast global network, an SSL/HTTPS certificate, security, daily backups, uptime monitoring, and reasonable text and image edits. No separate hosting bill, no plugin licences, nothing else to buy to keep your site online.

How do I request a change to my site?

Email changes@emarkss.com with what you want updated — new opening hours, prices, a staff change, fresh photos, a new paragraph or section. We make reasonable edits as part of your plan.

What counts as "reasonable" edits vs. extra?

Included: updating wording, images, hours, prices, staff, contact details, and adding or tidying normal page content.

Quoted separately (no obligation): brand-new custom functionality, online shop / e-commerce, booking systems, integrations, or a full visual redesign. We'll always tell you the price before doing any chargeable work.

Who owns the content and the site?

Your text, logo and photos remain yours. While you're on an active plan we host and license the built site to you. Full ownership terms are in the Terms of Service.

Refunds & cancelling

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Any one-off setup fee is fully refundable for 7 days while your site is not yet live — no quibble. Once the site is live the setup work has been delivered, so it's non-refundable, and the monthly fee simply stops at the end of the current paid month when you cancel. Full details are in the Terms.

How do I cancel — do I have to call?

No call, no retention pitch. After the minimum term, cancel anytime from the self-serve billing portal we link you to, or just email us. Your plan stops at the end of the current paid month and isn't renewed.

If I cancel, what happens to my domain?

Your domain is always yours — it's registered to you, not us. If you leave, you simply point its DNS at wherever you go next. We'll remove the records on our side.
